1 Corinthians : Chapter 3

9) For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10) By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11) For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12) If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13) their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14) If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15) If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. 16) Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17) If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

Book of the Month

Sammy Tippit told his fiancée, “I can’t promise we’ll be rich, but life won’t be boring.”
Sammy had no idea what an understatement that would become. Beginning in the bars of Baton Rouge and the nightclubs of Chicago, Tippit has shared the news of life-changing faith in Christ all over the world – including in the middle of a revolution in Romania, the aftermath of genocide in Rwanda, and war in Burundi and the Congo.
Sammy’s lifelong adventure has come at a great price. He’s been cursed, threatened, arrested, deported, and blacklisted. He’s also been personally broken, ravaged with illness, and devastated by grief.
Yet he continues to preach to in stadiums, in open fields, and via satellite technology to hundreds of thousands around the globe.  For all other books…

Your Body – God’s Temple
Sammy Tippit: When we were at the conference, we had the opportunity to have Dr. Walt Larimore with us, and he shared some exciting and important truths that will help us with our health. In this devotional period, he is going to share some things more in depth with us about our health. Walt, thank you so much.
Walt Larimore: It’s good to be back with you.
Sammy: Thanks for sharing with us at this time. Let’s talk about something we didn’t talk about last time. That was obesity. Obesity has become an epidemic in America. Talk to me about that. How severe is the problem, and what can we do about it?
Walt: It’s the most severe it’s ever been. As a result, life expectancy of adults is shortened, and our children may be the first generation in American history whose life expectancy is shorter than their parents. We’re seeing diseases in the office now in kids we used to only see in adults: heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes in children, and the emotional effects it has on them.
Kids who are obese are more likely to be depressed, anxious, bullied, or a bully. It’s a huge problem.
Sammy: Well, with obesity, is there something we can do? I mean, for me, I have to admit I was obese. Now if you would’ve asked me, I would have said, “No, I’m a little overweight.” But technically and scientifically, I was obese. How does a person know if they have an obesity problem? I mean, I didn’t want to admit that. How do you know that, and what do you do about it?
Walt: Yeah, you have to find out the information. For children, it’s a measurement called Body Mass Index Percentile. For adults (18 and older), it’s Body Mass Index. It’s a calculator. It’s a computer-based calculation. You put in your gender, your height, and your weight, and it will tell you if you’re normal weight, overweight, extremely overweight, obese, or morbidly obese. Once you have that information, you can then act on it.
Sammy: What do you do? I know for me, my doctor said, “What made the change in you, Sammy?” When I was diagnosed with cancer, I had to come to grips with my “…body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…” I’ve not treated it the way God wanted me to treat it. I made a heart decision, but for the average guy out there, what does he do to make the kind of change he needs to make?
Walt: I’ve done some research with Florida Hospital down in Orlando, and we looked at different interventions. The one that appears to have the most effectiveness is when families make a decision to make healthy habits important…healthy habits as far as exercise and movement, as far as their nutrition, and as far as their sleep.
When a family does this together, it can make a difference. In fact, we’ve developed an eight- week program that’s available for free for families to use. For any of our listeners who don’t have a family (perhaps they’re living alone or they’re single), then you can do this with a small group or a Sunday school or an accountability group or folks at work. Doing stuff together can make a difference.
Sammy: Where do you find this eight-week program you’ve developed?
Walt: We can make it available, Sammy, on your website (the eight-week program). In fact, we have it in two phases. We have the first eight weeks, which are the easier steps. Then there’s a second (or a level two) program for a little bit more intense steps. Start out with step one, looking at the options that are available, and with your family or accountability group, choosing those you want to do as a family. When you taste that little bit of success, it builds the fruit for later steps.
Sammy: All right. We’ll take one step at a time in increments and find victory there.
Walt: And get started.
Sammy: Yep. And get started. Thank you so much.
Walt: My pleasure.
